The recent Physics Nobel Prize given to Penrose reminded me of a teacher of mine Professor Amal Kumar Raychoudhury (AKR). I attended his Classical Mechanics course in Presidency College in
- I didn’t know when I was taking the course that Professor AKR had developed an equation that showed that a singularity automatically appears in application of the General Relativity theory. I only knew he was famous. I learnt many decades later that people like Penrose, Hawking, Geroch and others have used his basic idea in black hole Physics. I am posting a documentary about him in Youtube. It is a tragedy that Prof AKR is now forgotten in India outside the scientific circle. However, he will remain an inspiration to Indian General Relativists.
