When Yama is near, markandeya clings on to Lord Shiva. That action of clinging on to Lord Shiva, provides him liberation. Sage Markandeya explains in Shiva Mrtyunjaya stotram how clinging onto Lord Shiva helps in liberation.
What can 'mrtyu' do, when I submit headlong to Rudra (underneath all matter), pasupati (lord of all beings with mind), who creates and destroys time, the Unmanifest shiva whose half is manifest Uma.? Submit to that Hara, paramatma, the ultimate union of all matter and mind.
What can mrtyu do, when I submit headlong to purest of pure, remover of poison, who witnesses everything through thousands of eyes, who on left-side has Uma and manifests as Ultimate guru in all life forms..? Submit to that Hara, paramatma, the ultimate union of all matter and mind.
What can mrtyu do when I submit headlong to the ultimate divinity of all, the first (Adhi), the shankara who carries trishul, from whose Jata flows ganga, the moon shines. Submit to that Hara, paramatma, the ultimate union of all matter and mind.
When I submit headlong (cling) to that ultimate bliss who creates, evolves, destroys, it leads to detachment. What can mrtyu do (to a detached person)..? Submit to that Hara, paramatma, the ultimate union of all matter and mind.
Clinging onto Easwara provides detachment in creating, running, terminating all our actions. Hence Easwara is the Ultimate guru. One who recites this stotram in front of Shiva realizes (this detachment) and loses fear of evils, fire or death.
Yogi is one who unionizes body and mind. Yoga means Union. The ultimate Yogi is Shiva, the Union of all matter and mind, the Union of unmanifest and manifest. By reciting this stotram 100's of times, one clings onto this Ultimate Yogi, which leads to detached actions, resulting in difficulties going off, wishes coming true.
