Whenever 'golden eyed' asuras assault Mother Earth, hide her under their 'rasatala', varAha descends liberating Mother Earth and destroying those Asuras. Vara-Aha means 'pre-eminent or superior'. Why is varAha associated with wild boar on Earth..?

varAha, the superior savior of Mother Earth keeps descending in various forms to restore Mother Earth to her pristine state, when she is threatened by asuras, all through the life of Universe. In the forests, varAha descends as (panjurli) wild boar, clearing dead animals, ensuring germination of seeds through furrowing, promoting biodiversity of forests, protecting its borders.

Thus Panjurli determines 'guliga' the boundary stone, to protect the forest. Communities that depend on a thriving forest worship panjurli the wild boars as varAha, and guliga the boundary stone as a boundary protecting deity. Any attempt to breach guliga (boundary) invites the wrath of panjurli, which invades farms and cause destruction. Even if panjurli is taken care, it is believed that guliga never forgives those who came in the way of his duty.

Panjurli (wild boar) is destructive for human farms, but protective of forests. Since forests are needed for human existence, it is believed that Panjurli (and guliga) has been deputed by Lord Shiva as an avatar of varAha to protect us.

We are increasingly becoming HiranyakSas assaulting Mother Earth inviting wrath of varAha. Let panjurli and guliga save us all.
